Many of the values that I live by today were planted and nurtured by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who taught at Madonna del Sasso School in Salinas. My family was involved in the early years of the school and parish, and we were members of the parish for nearly 50 years. Sr. Barbara Matasci served as principal for 6 of the 8 years I attended the school, and then returned as principal later when I was the parish youth minister.

Transitioning from an elementary school student who idolized the Sisters to becoming an adult colleague on the parish staff was made easier because of Sr. Barbara. She welcomed, encouraged, and challenged me as an adult faith member of the parish. Sr. Barbara walked with my family through some trying times, and was present when my family mourned the passing of my parents. The charism and ministry of the Notre Dame Sisters is welcoming and accepting: Christ-like virtues that have inspired me throughout my life. Although I now live in San Diego, I continue to support the Madonna del Sasso parish.

I am grateful to the Sisters for their faith and inspiration, which is why I have designated them as beneficiaries in my retirement accounts. May their work continue!
